Structures
Isabel von Rittberg and her dancers choreograph and perform on a portable climbing wall and a bar structure built by AscenDance Project. The appearance of the wall is inspired by red rocks of the American southwest and features a overhanging section in the center. The bar structure has a more industrial look and allows for movements to be three-dimensional and Parcour-like. The bars give the audience a 360 degree view, thus allows for interesting perspectives. In addition, AscenDance Project adapts to new environments and creates site-specific work on pre-existing climbing walls, sculptures and structures.
The Wall
The wall is a portable structure that attaches to a standard scaffolding rig or other fixture. It can be stablized by attachment to four 55-gallon drums which are filled with water (1800 pounds). Its compact modular construction enables it to be easily transported in a medium size truck or van. AscenDance has a second wall with identical dimensions that is permanently installed in our studio. Dimensions: 24 feet wide, 12 feet tall. The overhang in the center is 4 feet deep, making for a total of 12 feet depth when attached to a scaffolding rig. The surface of the wall is covered by approximately 150 holds produced from a custom mold by Nicros.
The Bars
The bars are a lightweight three-dimensional structure made of aluminium piping in a cubical shape. It is a free-standing structure and does not require counterbalance. The bars can be lifted and moved by two persons with the assistance of a pair of rolling platforms. The bars can be completely disassembled and transported in a small truck or car. Dimensions: 12 feet wide, 8 feet high, 8 feet deep. A layer of marley is used under the bars to protect the floor and provide a suitable dancing surface.
